It’s that time of year (and perhaps the most important) when we find out where the best pies in New Zealand come from.
It’s no secret that a good, piping-hot pie is a staple here in Aotearoa, and with the New Zealand Bakels Supreme Pie Awards wrapped up for 2026, we won’t gatekeep.
There was one Supreme overall winner, taking home the crown for creating the best pie in the country, while winners were also crowned across categories ranging from the classic Mince and Cheese and Bacon and Egg to the boujee Café Boutique.
So, the next time you need a road trip pit stop, something to warm your belly on smoko, or just want to taste-test the best of the best from around the motu, here are New Zealand's top pies!
NZ Bakels Supreme Pie Award Winner 2026
Bacon & Egg - Levain Bakery | Auckland
Sean Vo, the owner of Levain Bakery in Blockhouse Bay, Auckland, has taken the cake (or, pie?) with a recipe that has been in his family for more than 40 years.
According to NZ Bakels managing director Brent Kersel, Levain Bakery’s delicious creation “was a pure delight to taste with its smoky slices and petite core of bacon, the generous amount of whole eggs, and that signature light, yet creamy sauce with a delicate hint of cheese.”
We’re absolutely drooling over it!

On receiving the award, Vo spoke of his Vietnamese parents coming to New Zealand and eventually buying the bakery, which he now owns.
“We never had bacon and egg pies in our culture, but French patisserie and baking were in our blood… Dad loved bacon and egg pies. He ate one almost every day. That was his thing in the morning, a cup of tea or coffee and a bacon and egg pie. That’s my fondest memory of Dad when I was growing up”, he says.
Kersel added it was “a perfect pie and a perfect score.”
After winning gold in the Bacon & Egg category last year, it was only a matter of time before Levain Bakery took the cake (ahem pie)!
Massive congrats to Sean and the team at Levain!
