One Māori whānau has gone viral for their innocent — yet crack-up — prank on a boyfriend meeting them for the first time.
Originally shared by TikToker Hoera (@hoeraw), the video was later picked up and reposted by popular Māori Instagram page @Hahana_official.
“When your sister brings home her foreign boyfriend for the first time so you give them a full-on pōwhiri 🤣 Actuals awn whānau 🫡,” they captioned the clip.
The stitch-up has now racked up over 600k views across both pages in just 24 hours.
In the video, the couple arrive in the driveway, ready to head inside - but instead, they’re met by the WHOLE household dressed in korowai, gumboots, and holding a Tino Rangatiratanga flag.
The respectful king stood there, hands behind his back, as the fake ceremony began.
The whānau went all out with the karanga, whaikōrero, waiata - even a koha was handed over.
When it finished, the boyfriend (who was still NONE the wiser) stood holding the koha, genuinely feeling touched, saying: “That was beautiful, thank you!”
Of course, as the manuhiri, the girlfriend then had to respond with a waiata. She barely made it through without cracking up.
But the best moment has to be when the boyfriend is told “it’s a whole piss-take.” The look on his face is priceless.

Commenters love how he handled the surprise moment, with one writing: “He’s falling in love with the whanau already 👏❤️🙌
“He’s a keeper. Didn’t bolt, just stayed chill and respectful 🤣🤣 to tangata whenua. Amene,” said another.
“He'll be feeling honoured,” a third added.
What do we reckon? He’s a keeper, aye whānau?
