WATCH: Taika Waititi dedicates Oscar win to "all the indigenous kids in the world" during acceptance speech

Taika Waititi has just won his first Oscar, winning "Best Adapted Screenplay" for his WWII era comedy Jojo Rabbit.

Upon accepting the award, Taika gave a classically comedic yet touching speech where he thanked his mother, before sending a special dedication to indigenous kids around the world.

"Amazing. Thank you," Waititi said, holding the statue.

"This is really light. It's supposed to be heavy," he joked, before thanking his mother "for being my mother and for, I mean, for many other reasons. For giving me the book I adapted. This film wouldn't have existed without you doing that."

Taika then finished his speech with a dedication to indigenous people around the world:

"I dedicate this to all the indigenous kids in the world who want to do art, and dance, and write stories. We are the original story-tellers, and we can make it here as well."

Congratulations Taika!
