It's been 20 years since Pluto's iconic album 'Pipeline Under The Ocean' was released, but the songs continue to stand the test of time.

To celebrate this milestone, the band is dropping a special 20th anniversary reissue of the album on vinyl, featuring remastered audio and five new unreleased tracks.

'Long White Cross' was the smash hit from the double platinum record, winning Single of the Year at the New Zealand Music Awards the year after it was released.

Frontman Milan Borich and guitarist Tim Arnold stopped by the rova studio to perform an acoustic version of the song for us, something they say they've never done in the 20 years since the song's release.

The pair also took a trip down memory lane, recalling how 'Long White Cross' was born out of a jam in the sleepout at Milan's parents' farm.

The track started out "very slow" - due to the musicians being "very high" - but they sped it up manually with a tape player, finessing the finer details before taking it ot the rest of the band.

Back then, the five-piece had no idea of the impact the song would have on the NZ music scene and beyond. Milan said it wasn't until he heard a sea of people at Big Day Out singing the lyrics back to him that he understood they'd managed to make a bit of magic.

The song still gets radio play to this day, and was recently voted into The Rock 2000 countdown of the greatest rock songs of all time, along with another of their hits, 'Dance Stamina'.

More surprisingly, YouTube comments on the 'Long White Cross' music video today still reference the song's addition to the EA Cricket 07 video game soundtrack, where it was discovered by players all over the world.

Watch the full performance in the video above, and check out our full chat with Milan and Tim here.
