Yesterday, Jason Derulo and JoJo landed in Aotearoa, where they were welcomed with an emotional powhiri in Tamaki Makaurau.
Fresh off the plane for their NZ performances, the two R&B singers experienced a customary powhiri from Kaihaka Collective.
In a video shared by Kaihaka, Wawata Design's Elyse Wilton presents two contemporary Korowai to Jojo and Jason right before their powhiri.
"I'm in shambles, this is so beautiful," JoJo can be heard saying as Elyse explained the colours and designs in the beautiful Korowai to represent the singer's accomplishments.
"I will cherish this forever," a tearful JoJo promised as she gave a hug to the designer.
Jason was also extremely grateful for his Korowai as he thanked Elyse for her hand-woven design.
"Yes JoJo feeling the wairua," one Facebook commenter wrote.
Another said: "Love the appreciation from them both! He taonga."
"Respect, I'm so proud to be a Maori. JoJo having a little cry, she can feel the mana and the aroha in that korowai," a third added.
The pair then stood back as Kaihaka performed a powerful welcoming haka.
"They took it like champs," wrote Ngakete Bennett on TikTok as she captured the moment.
In the clip, JoJo can be seen wiping tears from her eyes as the group echoed through the airport.
One user commented: "I love how Jojo is tearing up. It shows so much love and respect for them. She's such a sweet and kind person this is beautiful ??"
We'll keep you updated on any other sightings of Jason and JoJo while they enjoy their time here in Aotearoa.
