Watch Doechii join Lauryn Hill on stage in a legendary 'passing of the torch' moment

“This is the greatest honour hip-hop could give me."

Doechii joined the hip-hop icon Lauryn Hill over the weekend for an iconic duet of ‘Doo Wop (That Thing)’.

This surprise collab happened during Hill’s performance at the Jazz In The Gardens Festival at the Hard Rock Stadium on March 8th.

While Doechii was already part of the lineup, Hill shocked the crowd by bringing her onstage to perform one of her biggest hits.

“I want to introduce y’all to another sister,” Hill said, hyping up Doechii’s entrance.

Doechii led the performance, rapping the verses while Hill dropped some adlibs in the background before launching into the chorus.

Afterward, Doechii took to her X account to share how appreciative she was of the opportunity.

“Thank you Miss Lauryn Hill,” she wrote. “Thank you. My heart is so full. She is my hero.”

“This is the greatest honour hip-hop could give me. Praise God … my entire body is vibrating with joy right now. I’ll never forget this day! EVER!”

“I never been so nervous in my life,” she added. “She is a QUEEN.”

Fans couldn’t get enough of the moment and shared how legendary of a moment it was for the Swamp Princess.

“Oh, I know Doechii just about died lol. Lauryn doesn’t just bring anybody on stage,” one person wrote.

“The girl is on a legendary run 😍😍😍,” another said of Doechii’s recent surge in popularity.

A third called it “a passing of the torch moment for Doechii.”

And the one and only Missy Elliot simply put a couple of fire emojis.

Doechii has been on a streak of success in 2025, especially after she won ‘Best Rap Album’ at the Grammys last month.

She became the third-ever female winner, after Lauryn Hill herself and Cardi B.

Safe to say she won’t be slowing down anytime soon - she’s on the rise to the top!
