It is that time of year when every school in the country is rolling out their prize giving, and St Andrew’s College has managed to go viral, again this year, with its end-of-year performance.

The Christchurch school has built a name for itself in the last few years with these types of performances. A few years ago, it was ‘Stairway to Heaven’; last year, it was a huge seven-minute version of ‘Coldplay’s Viva La Vida

This year? They’ve levelled up again with a full Aotearoa Medley celebrating some of our most iconic Kiwi tracks.

The set included ‘Don’t Dream It’s Over by Crowded House’, ‘Don’t Forget Your Roots by Six60’, ‘Aotearoa by Stan Walker’ and ‘In Colour by Shapeshifter’, with the most incredible part being that it was all performed in a mix of te reo Māori and English.

It sounds incredible!

A comment on YouTube summed it up perfectly, saying, “It is wonderful hearing those songs being in Te Reo as well as English as it should be”

The video has already picked up more than 12,000 views on YouTube in just 24 hours, and the comments are full of people absolutely loving it. “Absolutely amazing performance yet again. Congratulations to everyone involved.” on person shared

Another added, “How inspiring it warms my heart to see these young shining stars and gives me hope for the youth of the future. “

The medley was arranged by former student William Buffham, and the stage was stacked with talent. Student vocal soloists included Sean Liddiard, George Wesley, Noah Fanane, Emily Edwards, Sarah Heffernan, Mookee Lee and Rory Forsythe. Ollie Hill played rhythm guitar, Ethan Lam took lead guitar, and the violin solo came from Miu Kim.

St Andrew’s has made a habit of finishing the school year with something special, and at this rate, if Six60 ever needed backup at One NZ Stadium, these students could genuinely step in and nail it.
