Just when you think the Lynx gift pack might be starting to become old news, Kiwis prove it’s still very much alive and kicking.
The Warehouse has shared a snapshot of how New Zealand shopped across 2024 and into 2025, from Christmas time to everyday essentials, and they revealed that more than 90,000 Lynx gift packs were sold nationwide last year.
That’s 90,000 moments of “this’ll do nicely” wrapped up and slid under the tree.
Even better, Southland topped the country for Lynx pack purchases. Invercargill Warehouse did the heavy lifting last year, it seems!
Across the year, Kiwis also bought more than 50 million eggs, which is apparently enough to make “over eight million pavlovas using the traditional six-egg recipe.”
A comforting statistic, honestly.
Chocolate was another clear winner, with shoppers picking up a few hundred tonnes of the stuff. To be honest, I probably picked up at least a ton of that just myself.
Another classic was every teenage boys favourite gift from their grandma - socks! The Warehouse sold millions of pairs of socks last year (to no surprise).
Toy aisles were busy too, with Hot Wheels cars selling at a rate of eight every minute, all year long. That’s a lot of tiny cars meeting coffee tables at speed.
When it came to festive flair, Taranaki bought the most Christmas trees per capita, while The Warehouse also sold enough gift wrap to stretch the entire length of New Zealand, from top to bottom.
All up, it’s a tidy snapshot of Kiwi shopping habits, timeless, practical, and occasionally finished off with a Lynx pack for good measure.
