Viola Davis and the cast of 'Air' are currently doing the press rounds for their new film and on their junket Viola made mention of an iconic Aotearoa film, putting it up there as one of her faves of all time.
The actress named many of her favourite films, but the one that piqued our interest the most was the Lee Tamahori film 'Once Were Warriors' featuring none other than Temuera Morrison and Mamaengaroa Kerr-Bell.
In the clip, Viola says: "It's a foreign film from the '80s," as she mentions director Lee Tamahori and gives Aotearoa a shout-out.
Many Kiwi fans took to the comments of the TikTok video to show some Kiwi pride - as we are known to do when our little country is mentioned on an international scale.
One fan wrote: "OMG SHE PICKED ONCE WERE WARRIORS!!! Easily one of my favourite movies of all time. Incredible film."
"No way Viola Davis knows 'Once Were Warriors, lmao," wrote another in shock.
A third wrote: "What a fantastic shout."
Even the official @PrimeVideoAU&NZ chimed in writing: "Viola Davis has TASTE š„š„š„
In the new flick 'Air' Viola plays iconic basketballer Michael Jordan's mother.
The official trailer synopsis explains 'Air' is about the "game-changing partnership between a then-rookie Michael Jordan and Nike's fledgling basketball division which revolutionized the world of sports and contemporary culture with the Air Jordan brand."
It continues: "This moving story follows the career-defining gamble of an unconventional team with everything on the line, the uncompromising vision of a mother who knows the worth of her son's immense talent, and the basketball phenom who would become the greatest of all time."
I mean, if Viola Davis has such great taste in movies, surely the ones she stars in are just as good, right?
I might just have to go and check this one out!
