A video of two young Kiwi lads landing a snapper has people praising them in the comments, and it’s easy to see why.
Posted to the Instagram account @reel.tidesnz, the video shows a kid named Danny off the rocks in the water with a fishing rod, clearly hooked into something decent. Behind the camera is his mate, absolutely fizzing.
“Danny just fight it bro!” he yells. “That’s a dog aye!” Both boys crack up laughing while Danny keeps battling away, waist-deep in the water, before the cameraman also jumps in to back his mate up.
“Go Danny boy!” he shouts, buzzing with excitement as Danny reels it in. And sure enough, Danny lands a solid snapper. No fuss, no showboating, just two stoked kids and a decent snapper.
The video has racked up hundreds of thousands of views on Instagram. Unsurprisingly, Kiwis have absolutely flooded the comments, many of them getting a bit misty-eyed over it all.
“Go Danny boy!!” one person wrote. “Find you a friend who will cheer you on like this.”
“This is the loveliest thing I’ve seen on here in ages,” another said. “It made me tear up. To see 2 young lads living their best life out in nature is just beautiful.”
There’s been plenty of love for the cameraman too: “Best camera man on the net! Chur little cuzzie!” wrote one person.
“That cameraman understood the assignment, well done fullahs!! Keep it up,” another wrote.

Others reckon it’s a reminder of what growing up in New Zealand is all about: “The definition of a perfect kiwi childhood.”
Another commented, “They are some real Weet Bix kids right there.”
No filters, no trends, no nonsense. Just mates, the ocean, and a good fish.
If you’re keen to keep up with more of the cameraman’s fishing adventures, he’s got a YouTube channel, TikTok and Instagram.
Honestly, how good is that.
