Chris Cornell's widow Vicky has shared a previously unheard clip of the late, great Chris Cornell covering Tracy Chapman's 'Fast Car' - and it's bloody beautiful.
Vicky shared the clip to Instagram on Sunday (21 July), marking what would've been the legendary singer's 60th birthday. The clip shows a poignant montage of Chris throughout the years, alongside the emotive cover of the Tracy Chapman classic.
"Chris would have turned 60 today," Vicky wrote on Instagram. "Although everyone that loved him is sad that he's no longer here, it's all of you, the fans who made him, whose love has continued to keep his legacy alive. I'm so grateful to you all for that.
"While I remember him best as the wonderful husband, father and human being he was - I'd like to celebrate his whole life and everything he gave us.
"On his 60th we can all celebrate his genius as an artist who redefined music, but also the incredible man who touched and changed lives. He's an icon, and he gave us all so much - his unique voice, his poetry, his creativity. his life was a gift to so many."
Referencing the unreleased 'Fast Car' cover, Vicky wrote, "And as you can hear - there's more to come!!!"
She signed the post off, "Sharing this to thank you all for your love and support and come together in celebrating .. We love you Chris - happy birthday!"
The post has fans hoping we'll get to hear more unreleased music recorded from Chris before his tragic death.
Back in April 2023, it was reported that Vicky and the surviving members of Soundgarden had "reached an amicable out of court resolution" after years of legal battles, to release the last of the material that Soundgarden and Chris had recorded.
"The two parties are united and coming together to propel, honour and build upon Soundgarden's incredible legacy as well as Chris's indelible mark on music history as one of the greatest songwriters and vocalists of all time," Soundgarden said at the time.
However later in 2023, Soundgarden drummer Matt Cameron revealed that unfortunately the dispute is still ongoing and "everything is on hold right now."
"But hopefully soon – I'm not giving up hope," Cameron said at the time.
Fingers crossed that the dispute is settled soon. After hearing the clip of Cornell's 'Fast Car' cover, it would be incredible to be able to listen to the full cover and more unreleased material from the man who nobody sings like.
