Four taken to hospital after ‘unknown chemical’ detected at Ashburton school

St John was called to St Joseph’s School in Ashburton just after 9.30 am, after children began to feel ill. 

Two ambulances and one operations manager attended, alonside three Fire and Emergency crews.

FENZ said a chemical gas detector discovered a low level of an ‘unknown chemical’ at the site. 

Four patients were taken to Ashburton Hospital in a minor condition, but there was no word on their ages. 

The scene has been made safe by the fire crews. 

The rova news team tried contacting the school, but there was no response.
