If you’re currently deep in baby name TikTok or having the same argument on repeat with your partner, congrats. The top baby names of 2025 have dropped, which may or may not influence your own list, and they’re giving very strong classic-but-cute energy.

According to BabyCenter’s latest data, parents are still loving timeless favourites, with a few soft, modern names creeping their way up the ranks too.

For girls, Olivia is once again the undefeated champion, followed closely by Amelia, Sophia, Emma, and Isabella. Also making waves this year are Eliana and Aurora, which feel whimsical without being too out there.

What might be NZ’s most popular names in 2025

So far, there isn’t an official NZ list for 2025 yet, but local trend forecasts and name-love clues can give us a pretty good idea of what Kiwi parents might pick this year. One NZ blog looked across international charts and trend lists to guess which names could be on the rise here.

Girl's names we reckon will trend

• Ella

• Georgia

• Willow

• Ruby

• Charlotte

• Olivia

• Goldie

• Frankie

• Hallie

• Lily

Boy's names we’re backing

• Archie

• Billy

• Noah

• Hayden

• George

• Callum

• Oliver

• Tate

• Teddy

• Hugo

Will you actually choose one of these? Maybe. Will you save this list and come back to it at 2 am anyway? Almost definitely.
