Tom Holland has named Adolescence breakout star Owen Cooper as his possible Spider-Man successor.
The British actor made his debut as Peter Parker/Spider-Man in 2016's Captain America: Civil War and is now gearing up to release his fourth solo outing in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
While he has yet to divulge if he'll play Spider-Man again, Holland told Esquire UK in an interview published on Tuesday that he'd love to see a young actor like 16-year-old Cooper play the web-slinging superhero in the future.
When asked to name a good successor, Holland replied, "Owen Cooper would be awesome. Obviously, he's super-talented and the talk of the town right now." He noted that the role also works well with a fresh face.
Cooper achieved widespread acclaim last year for his breakout role in the miniseries Adolescence, for which he won an Emmy, a Golden Globe, a BAFTA TV Award, and an Actor Award, making history as the youngest recipient in his categories.
He recently made his film debut in Emerald Fennell's Wuthering Heights and is set to appear in Tom Ford's next film, Cry to Heaven.
Elsewhere in his Esquire interview, Holland, 30, shared that he would like to stay involved with the Spider-Man franchise whenever his tenure ends, however, he admitted it's "pretty tough to get a producing credit on future movies".
"In the way that Robert Downey was such a mentor for me in my first three movies, I would love to be that person for whoever is next," he explained.
The Impossible star noted that he completed his Marvel contract with 2021's Spider-Man: No Way Home, and was "on the fence" about making a fourth instalment.
However, he was heavily involved in this pre- and post-production process and believes it is "the best Spider-Man movie that we've ever made".
"It's a bit of a risk, but I think it really pays off," he added.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day will be released in cinemas on 31 July.
