Tom Holland has started dance rehearsals to prepare for his upcoming Fred Astaire biopic.
The Spider-Man: No Way Home actor was attached to star as the legendary performer in a movie back in late 2021, and after years of development, he is finally gearing up to shoot the project.
During an appearance on the Good Hang with Amy Poehler podcast on Tuesday, Holland revealed that he recently started dance rehearsals with director Paul King and their choreographer.
He admitted that he was "petrified" to show them his dance skills because he gave up dancing after his run in Billy Elliot the Musical. The star played one of the Billys on London's West End between the ages of 11 and 13.
"I was petrified because I've been telling this guy, this director Paul King, 'Don't worry, bro, I can dance,'" he quipped. "(It was the) first time I've worn tap shoes in 15 years and immediately I'm like, 'Wow, my feet feel like s**t in these shoes.'"
The 30-year-old loaded up a song from the stage musical and his body "naturally" remembered the routine. Although it wasn't perfect, Holland felt reassured that he had what it takes to play Astaire.
"I've been very nervous about the idea of making that film because it's going to be a huge undertaking from a prep point of view. It's also a big risk," he continued. "After that rehearsal, any fears I had or any questions like, 'Should I be making this movie?' completely left the room."
The Odyssey star added that his biggest career regret was quitting dancing, so he believes picking it up again will be a "fulfilling" experience.
In a separate interview with GQ published on Tuesday, Holland revealed that he hopes to start filming the untitled biopic in January 2027.
