There's a Grinch slasher-horror movie on the way called 'The Mean One' and please no

First Winnie the Pooh and now this...

The most well-known Christmas villains is about to turn even more evil as it's been announced that the Grinch will appear in his own horror movie this year.

Dr Suess's cynical, green, cliff-dwelling creature will turn into a slashing murderer in 'The Mean One', which will be released for free online on December 15th.

The film, directed by Steven Lamorte, will tell a tale of a Christmas search for answers as we'll follow a daughter whose parents were killed by the Grinch two decades prior.

"The Mean One is a hairy, green-skinned grump in a Santa suit, living on a mountain high above the town of Newville, despising the holiday season," it says.

"Young Cindy You-Know-Who, whose parents were butchered by The Mean One 20 Christmases earlier, is returning to town to seek closure. but is about to discover that this fiend with a heart two sizes two small is still quite eager to carve the roast beast."

Not entirely sure who or what the roast beast is that will be getting the carving treatment from Mr Grinch, but I reckon there aren't many better-suited cartoon characters to turn into a horrific murderer than the Grinch. There's no trailer out for the flick yet, but they have released one still image and the ol' Grinchy does look pretty scary.

XYZ Films' (the company producing the movie) Manager of Acquisitions and Development, Alex Williams, says in a statement that he's pumped as about the movie and that anyone who loves slasher films should get excited as well.

"As a passionate fan of seasonal horror, 'The Mean One' is exactly the kind of film that lands on my personal 'nice list'," he said.

"This movie is a stunningly great time with a ferociously subversive turn from David Howard Thornton [the actor portraying the Grinch] - and XYZ Films is so proud to be bringing this soon-to-be iconic Christmas slasher to audiences this holiday season."

'The Mean One' isn't the first childhood character to get the slasher movie treatment. Earlier this year it was announced that Winnie the Pooh will turn feral for the horror movie 'Winnie The Pooh: Blood and Honey".

Now we just want to know who's next, Mickey Mouse? The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles? Inspector Gadget?!
