The wildest stats from The Rock 2000 2026

The Rock 2000 is done for 2026, and beyond Blindspott making history and taking the crown, the final countdown produced some absolutely ridiculous numbers.

Yep, ‘Nil By Mouth’ is officially number one after climbing two spots from third last year, finally getting over the line after finishing second in 2024, seventh in 2023 and 12th in 2022.

A massive result for Blindspott and Kiwi rock.

But you already know that bit.

Now we’ve had a chance to dig through all 2,000 songs, there’s plenty more going on in the numbers.

For starters, 947 songs climbed the countdown this year, while 894 went backwards. Another 49 tracks made their Rock 2000 debut, while 107 old favourites clawed their way back in.

And some songs did a hell of a lot more climbing than others.

The biggest climb was a Kiwi monster

The biggest mover of the entire countdown belonged to The Boondocks, whose track ‘Bear With Me’ shot up an enormous 1,607 places to finish at number 246.

That means it jumped past more than 80 percent of the entire Rock 2000 in the space of a year.

Korn weren’t far behind either. ‘Y’All Want A Single’ climbed 1,528 spots to number 404, giving it the second-biggest rise of 2026.

At the other end of proceedings, Black Comet’s ‘R.C.’ suffered the biggest tumble, dropping 1,507 places to finish at number 1906.

That is a very long way down.

Limp Bizkit had the biggest debut

Of the 49 brand-new songs entering the Rock 2000 this year, Limp Bizkit landed the highest.

‘Making Love To Morgan Wallen’ went straight in at number 86, cracking the top 100 on debut.

Meanwhile, System Of A Down had the highest of the 107 re-entries, with ‘Boom!’ returning to the countdown at number 499.

They had a pretty decent time at the pointy end too, with ‘Chop Suey!’ finishing second overall.

Which bands dominated the countdown?

When it came to sheer numbers, nobody got close to Metallica.

They had a whopping 56 songs make The Rock 2000 this year, meaning 2.8 percent of the entire countdown was Metallica.

That works out to roughly one Metallica song for every 36 tracks played.

They made themselves known at the pointy end too, with ‘For Whom The Bell Tolls’ finishing fourth and ‘Master Of Puppets’ ninth, making them the only band with two tracks inside the top 10.

Fifty-six songs out of 2,000 though. Fair bloody effort.

Kiwi bands had a huge showing

On the local front, Devilskin and Shihad shared the honours as the most-played Kiwi bands, with 22 songs each making the countdown.

That’s 44 songs between just two NZ bands.

Of course, neither could quite match Blindspott when it came to the business end of proceedings, with ‘Nil By Mouth’ becoming the highest-ranked Kiwi track by taking out the whole thing.

Overall, New Zealand music accounted for 10.8 percent of The Rock 2000 this year. Not bad for a little country at the bottom of the map.

Where did all 2,000 songs come from?

The USA was comfortably the most represented country in The Rock 2000, accounting for 57.3 percent of the countdown. The United Kingdom came in next with 18.1 percent, followed by New Zealand at 10.8 percent.

Australia accounted for 6.9 percent, while Canada made up 1.8 percent.

So while more than half of the countdown came from the States, roughly one in every 10 tracks was ours.

Including the most important one sitting right at the top.

Three albums pulled off the full sweep

Getting a few tracks from the same album into The Rock 2000 is one thing. Getting every single song in is another.

Three albums managed the clean sweep this year: Pearl Jam’s ‘Ten’, Pearl Jam’s ‘Vs.’ and Nirvana’s ‘Nevermind’.

Yep, Pearl Jam managed to do it twice. Not one track left behind across either album.

Pearl Jam also had ‘Black’ from ‘Ten’ sitting all the way up at number eight, while every other track from the record found a home somewhere in the remaining 1,999.

So, after all 2,000 songs were done and dusted, the numbers tell a pretty decent story of their own.

947 climbers. 894 fallers. 49 debuts. 107 re-entries. A 1,607-place rocket up the rankings. 56 Metallica songs. 44 tracks between Devilskin and Shihad. Three complete albums.

And after years of knocking around the pointy end, Blindspott finally got ‘Nil By Mouth’ all the way to number one.

The winner gets the glory, but there was plenty of madness buried in the other 1,999.
