The number of Croc-related injuries suffered by Kiwis is wild - but were they in sport mode?

Get the Croc out!!

Look, whether you love 'em or hate 'em, Crocs have become the 'it girl' of footwear. Though sport mode is an option for the more intense conditions, it's now been revealed that your trusty Crocs have caused a hefty number of injuries here in Aotearoa.

ACC has revealed in the last year alone, 51 claims equaling $36,351 paid out due to the dangers of the mighty Croc - those are just from those who weren't ashamed to give the specific details of their footwear choice.

I could imagine there are plenty more who simply couldn't bring themselves to say they own a pair.

Of the claims that were made, it should come as no surprise that the foot came in at the top for the most injured body part, having 15 Croc-related injuries.

Of course, second place has to go to the ankle with eight accidents recorded.

And the rest are made up of soft tissue injuries, with those in the 65-plus age group appearing in the data the most frequently.

In terms of which regions are living life on the edge, Auckland (10 claims), Canterbury (7), Wellington (6) and Bay of Plenty (4) are the dare-devils taking on the risky shoe.

And if you're thinking "how dangerous can such a simple shoe be?" let me tell you!

One TikTok user posted an alarming video of an escalator that "tried to eat [his] feet".

Honestly, I've never quite understood the dangers of the popular shoe until now, and I'm starting to really question why people are braving them outside the house.

Stay safe all you Croc wearers!!
