Ooh, friends, the show behind some of the most iconic one-liners, well, ever, might be returning soon.
‘The Inbetweeners’ are set for a comeback, with the OG lads reportedly keen to get involved.
After years of rumours and speculation, Fudge Park Productions - the company started by the show’s creators Ian Morris and Damon Beasley - has struck an agreement with Banijay UK, which is said to “pave the way for the return of the hit comedy.”
Production company, Banijay UK, is most well-known for creating popular shows including ‘Big Brother’ and ‘MasterChef’ and ‘Peaky Blinders’.
Exactly how ‘The Inbetweeners’ will come back, how many episodes, or where we’ll be able to watch it is yet to be revealed. But Morris and Beasley confirmed it will revolve around our favourite idiots.
According to Daily Mail, the project “could involve a new TV run, a film, or even a stage adaptation, with talks already underway about how to reboot the cult favourite.”
“It’s incredibly exciting to be plotting more adventures for our four favourite friends (ooh friends),” Morris and Beasley said in a statement via Variety.
This is a wonderful moment for fans, there are exciting conversations afoot and more news to follow.
Banijay’s chief executive, Patrick Holland, revealed he was "delighted to pick up the conversation about the future of ‘The Inbetweeners’ with them".
The original TV series ran for three seasons from 2008 to 2010, followed by two feature films in 2011 and 2014. The first movie broke records for the biggest opening weekend for a comedy at the time.
Since then, the show has only grown more legendary, with new generations discovering the hilarious crew’s shenanigans.
Talk for a reboot has been constant, with Joe Thomas (Simon) being asked just last year if conversations for a comeback had started.
“Yes,” he said. “It’s happened in various forms. All of us feel it would be nice to do.”
He told the ‘Always Be Comedy Podcast’: “We’re all still around. We’re all still in each other’s lives. We all still like each other. And if it was something that came up, I think we would want to do it.”
In November 2018, the original cast took part in a reunion to mark the 10th anniversary of the show.
Fans have had a few false hopes over the years, like the 2018 reunion to mark the show’s 10th anniversary, which ended up being more of a Jimmy Carr-hosted variety show than new episodes.
James Buckley (Jay) later apologised for not hitting the mark, saying he was excited at the prospect of the reunion, but instead “became a thing where it wasn’t a celebration of that good thing I did in my life, it was me being taken the piss out of for hours on end.”
Since then, the cast have constantly dismissed rumours of any sort of comeback… until now.
In the last few weeks, Buckley and Thomas have reunited for a brand new podcast called ‘Joe and James Fact Up’.
We couldn’t be more excited for this and what’s to come for the rest of the lads from this agreement!
