You should see his attempt at learning a mana wave.

Singer, Teddy Swims performs for students at Christchurch high school

More FM gave students at Christchurch’s Marian College a moment they’ll never forget - a surprise visit from international superstar Teddy Swims.

Fresh off the plane after performing at the NRL Grand Final, and right before his sold-out show at Wolfbrook Arena last night, the Grammy-nominated singer walked into a gym packed with over 400 screaming students.

He treated them to their own mini-concert, performing a few of his biggest hits, including ‘Bad Dreams’ and ‘Doors’. But it was his breakthrough song, ‘Loose Control’ that sent the students wild.

Everyone was on their feet, grabbing each other in excitement and belting the lyrics right back at him.

Teddy was so blown away that he even shared the moment on his Instagram story with his four million followers, showing the world how die-hard his Marian College fans are.

After the performance, he stuck around for a quick Q&A, revealing that his dream collabs would be with Adele or The Wiggles - especially now that he’s a proud new dad to a three-month-old baby.

Talking to More FM’s Lana Searle, Teddy admitted the school’s energy was unmatched, even topping some of his arena crowds.

“We’ll play an arena tonight, and it won’t be anywhere near as loud as 400 girls, man,” he laughed.

“That's the best part of the job, being able to do that; this is what it's all about.”

Before wrapping up, Lana gave him a quick Kiwi lesson on the perfect mana wave. The students went off watching him give it a go.

Though he might need a bit more practice before pulling it out on stage… sorry, Teddy.

In their chat, Teddy also opened up about becoming a dad and how tough it’s been being away from his little one while touring.

“It’s heartbreak like I’ve never felt before,” Teddy said. “It’s amazing, but also kind of grieving at the same time.”

He also reflected on his recent performance at the NRL Grand Final in front of 80,000 fans.

“That was such a beautiful thing to be able to do. The two hours after I got off stage, my body was still buzzing, it was the most exciting thing I’ve ever done”.

Before sending him off to keep performing across Aotearoa, Lana cheekily suggested Stewart Island as his next stop.

Teddy replied: “We’ll go sing to them too.”

Teddy Swims plays Auckland’s Spark Arena tomorrow night - and trust us, after last night, you’re in for a real treat!
