Apple TV has officially confirmed Ted Lasso is back and way sooner than anyone expected. Well, sooner than I expected, anyway.

A handful of teaser images dropped overnight with the caption: “You better believe it. Ted Lasso returns this summer.”

Which, in New Zealand terms, means we’ll be watching it in the middle of winter. Peak couch-season content.

If you need a refresher, Season 3 ended with Ted heading back to America, but quietly planted the idea that AFC Richmond could launch a women’s team.

The images Apple released today confirm Richmond’s women’s side is happening, and that’s what Season 4 is all about.

Apple says Ted is “returning to Richmond, taking on his biggest challenge yet: coaching a second division women’s football team,” with the season centred around Ted and the team “learning to leap before they look, taking chances they never thought they would.”

In the teaser images, we see a few familiar faces straight away. Ted Lasso himself (Jason Sudeikis) is back, along with Hannah Waddingham

However, there’s also a new face in the mix. Tanya Reynolds appears alongside Ted in a coaching uniform, who looks like he is overseeing trials for Richmond’s new women’s team.

Anette Badland returns as Mae Green, who we LOVE keeping the pub patrons in line.

A small Easter egg shows Ted’s son (now played by Grant Feely) in a school uniform at the pub, hinting he may be living with Ted in the UK this time.

Fan favourites Coach Beard (Brendan Hunt) and Roy Kent (Brett Goldstein) are both confirmed.

But not everyone is returning.

Names like Nick Mohammed (Nate), Phil Dunster (Jamie Tartt), Sarah Niles (Dr Sharon), Anthony Head (Rupert), Toheeb Jimoh (Sam), James Lance (Trent Crimm), Cristo Fernández (Dani Rojas), Kola Bokinni (Isaac) and Billy Harris (Colin) haven’t been announced as regulars for Season 4.

That’s a big chunk of the men’s team, which makes sense given the shift toward a brand-new women’s side and a fresh chapter for the club.

A release date is still to come, but with teasers being dropped, a trailer can’t be far away.
