Te Waka, SUB-TRIBE ft. Casual Healing

SUB-TRIBE are bringing their roots to the forefront with their latest waiata, ‘Te Waka’, a powerful reminder that no matter where life takes you, your whakapapa will always be part of you.

Created from the band’s experiences as Māori artists living and making music across the ditch in Australia, ‘Te Waka’ explores the connection between identity, ancestry and home. Being away from Aotearoa hasn’t weakened that connection. Instead, the track celebrates the stories, strength and legacy of their tūpuna, carried with them wherever they go.

The waiata also speaks to the challenge of balancing cultural values and unity with the pressures of modern life and capitalism. At its heart, ‘Te Waka’ is a call to keep moving forward together, with mana, purpose and resilience.
