Steven Soderbergh has no regrets about the time he spent working on the scrapped Star Wars movie, The Hunt for Ben Solo.
The Ocean's Eleven filmmaker spent more than two years working with Adam Driver and a creative team on a standalone movie centring around Driver's Star Wars character Kylo Ren/Ben Solo.
Although the film was ultimately scrapped by the studio's parent company Disney, Soderbergh still considers the two-year process as time well spent.
"I don't regret one minute of the time we spent working on that," he told The Playlist. "I felt the work was good. It's just good for you to be in that room and working on it. It's like CrossFit - it's good for you. It'll have a residual effect that will be unexpected at some point."
The Logan Lucky director noted that he did not dwell on the disappointing news and kept his focus on finding a new project.
"As soon as it became apparent, OK, not gonna happen, I sat down and started writing (something else)," he continued. "It's like, 'OK, new scenario, let's get cracking.' At a certain point, it's like complaining about the weather. You just gotta keep moving."
Since The Hunt for Ben Solo was scrapped, the leadership at both companies have changed. Dave Filoni and Lynwen Brennan have taken over Lucasfilm from Kathleen Kennedy, and Josh D'Amaro officially succeeded Bob Iger as Disney CEO last month.
Soderbergh told Star Wars fans that they should not get their hopes up about the movie being revived under the new leadership.
"Look, if it was gonna happen, it would have happened," he stated. "It's that simple."
The filmmaker previously told BK Mag in February that they were all "frustrated" by Disney's "insane" decision.
"I'd kind of made the movie in my head, and just felt bad that nobody else was going to get to see it," he shared. "And so there's nothing to do about it, you know, except move on."
Over the past three years, Soderbergh has been on a prolific directing streak, helming movies such as Magic Mike's Last Dance, Presence, Black Bag and The Christophers, which opens in the U.S. on Friday.
