Squeeze cancel U.S. concert after man 'crushed by tour bus'

Squeeze cancelled a U.S. show on Thursday after the "tragic" death of a worker beneath their tour bus.

The band, fronted by Glenn Tilbrook, were set to play in Vienna, Virginia on Thursday night as part of their ongoing series of gigs with Adam Ant and Haircut 100.

In a statement, the Up the Junction rockers confirmed the cancellation of the date just hours before they were due to take the stage at the Wolf Trap National Park For The Performing Arts.

"Squeeze are deeply saddened and shocked by an incident that occurred at the venue earlier today, which resulted in the loss of a life," they shared on their social media channels," their statement read. "After discussions with the venue and the relevant authorities, the decision was made to cancel this evening's performance."

According to local news station Fox 5, the incident involved a member of the road crew, who was crushed after the vehicle he was working on collapsed on top of him. Police told the outlet that he was pronounced dead at the scene. They blamed the incident, which occurred in the venue car park, on a failure of "supporting apparatus".

A spokesperson for the venue said in their own statement, "There was an accident involving a member of the community at Wolf Trap National Park today, tragically resulting in a loss of life. Out of respect, tonight's show has been cancelled."

Announcing plans to reschedule, the band added, "We will work with the promoter and venue regarding the possibility of rescheduling the show and will communicate further information to ticket holders as soon as it is available. Our thoughts remain with everyone affected by this tragic event."

Despite the tragedy, Squeeze's tour is set to continue in Ohio on Friday, followed by further shows in Illinois, Colorado, Utah, California and more throughout the month, before they return to their native U.K. in November.
