Spotify Wrapped for 2025 has landed - and for some, it’s the chance to flex on your friends how alternative and cool your music tastes are. For others? It’s admitting that maybe you might actually enjoy Taylor Swift's music, even though you’ve talked shit about her all year.
Spotify has revealed what songs Kiwis couldn’t get enough of this year, and leading the charge is none other than Alex Warren. Yeah, the same Alex Warren who used to do TikTok dances and rip off David Dobrik's YouTube vlogs is now a global superstar thanks to his viral hit ‘Ordinary’.
Close behind in second place, Kiwis couldn’t get enough of Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars’s surprise collab ‘Die With A Smile’. Hardly surprising, it was most likely an A rotation amongst your Mum’s book club (which we all know is just an excuse to drink a couple of Sauvignon blancs while talking shit about the husbands).
In third place, it was the song of the summer of '24. A time when every woman you knew owned a pashmina. A time when you sent a couple of ‘wuu2’ texts with one eye closed. A time when the weather was only warm when you went back to work. 'The Days (Notion Remix)' by DJ Chrystal had us Kiwis in a chokehold this year, and instantly brings back memories of a time when I produced serotonin.
Some surprising mentions? Kiwis were absolutely frothing a couple of throwbacks with Fleetwood Mac's 'Dreams’ making it to #8 and 'Iris' by The Goo Goo Dolls in #17 (which I will be claiming full responsibility for thanks to my obsession with the 'Live in Buffalo' performance of 2004).
So if you’re still grappling with the fact that you might be a basic b*tch after getting a summary of your music taste for the year, don’t fear, it looks like most of NZ is as well.
