Move over spicy margs, there’s a new NZ wine to turn up the heat - literally.
Somebody thought it’d be a good idea to put jalapeños in Sauvignon Blanc, and now it’s a thing.
New Zealand’s first-ever Spicy Jalapeño Sauvignon Blanc is on its way, made by Invivo Wines - designed to pour ice-cold, over ice, or as a base for cocktails.
The idea to turn it into the bottled stuff came straight from TikTok, where jalapeños and Sauvignon Blanc racked up over 14 million views last year.
People were chopping up raw chillies, freezing the slices and using them to cool and then heat up the vino with every sip.
“We saw the internet adding jalapeños to sauvignon blanc and knew immediately we had to create the real thing,” says Rob Cameron, Invivo co-founder and winemaker. “It’s bold, refreshing, and unapologetically spicy.”
Co-founder Tim Lightbourne adds, “We love pushing the boundaries of what wine can be, and this might be our boldest idea yet. With the trend blowing up online, we thought - why not make it for real?”

It’s even got the celebrity tick of approval. Sarah Jessica Parker is actually a long-time partner with the Kiwi wine company.
SJP also got involved in the process, helping balance the heat so it builds gradually while still complementing the classic Kiwi Sauv Blanc.
Fine, I’ll grab a glass, park on the couch, and rewatch ‘Sex and the City’ for the 183rd time.
It’s not the only celeb-NZ wine crossover. This time last year, Graham Norton was snapped picking grapes at Marlborough vineyard during his first trip to NZ.
Graham got stuck into grape picking, sampling fresh juice, and assessing fruit quality - all the steps that go into making his popular GN Sauvignon Blanc.
It seems we know what’s good with the grapes here in Aotearoa.
The Invivo X SJP Spicy Jalapeño Sauvignon Blanc is expected to land in stores around the motu in Spring.
