Snoop Dogg feels honoured to be working with Ridley Scott on the upcoming movie God of the Rodeo.

The Gin and Juice rapper is set to star and produce the film with Sara Ramaker for their Death Row Pictures banner.

Famed Gladiator director Scott will also produce the film for Scott Free Productions, while his wife Giannina Scott will produce for Cara Films. The film will be written and directed by Father Stu's Rosalind Ross.

Addressing his movie role, Snoop told Deadline, "Linking up with Scott Free Productions and working with Ridley Scott and Giannina Scott on God of the Rodeo is life changing and an honor.

"Rosalind Ross brought a story with heart and grit, and that's what I'm about. Me and the team at Death Row Pictures stepping in as producers, I'm acting in it, and Death Row Records is building the soundtrack-and this one got soul... We're bringing an important story and something special to the screen."

Based on journalist Daniel Bergner's 1998 book of the same name, the film tells the story of Buckkey, played by Shia LaBeouf, an inmate serving a life sentence in Louisiana's Angola Prison. Buckkey finds a glimmer of redemption in an unlikely opportunity: the prison's first-ever inmate rodeo in 1967.

It has not been announced which character Snoop, real name Calvin Broadus, will play.

"Snoop Dogg is one of the most gifted and influential artists alive, with admirers and fans all over the world and from every generation transcending music, sports and culture," added Giannina Scott. "Ridley and I, with our companies Scott Free and Cara Films, are so excited and blessed to have Snoop join the cast, and for him, Sara and Death Row Pictures to partner with us to produce this important and soulful project from Rosalind Ross."

While he's best known for his work in the music industry, Snoop has had many on-screen roles since the mid-'90s, including appearances in films such as Dolemite Is My Name, Training Day, The Wrecking Crew and Starsky & Hutch.
