Slash reveals Guns N' Roses are finally making new music

Slash has revealed Guns N' Roses are working on brand-new music, just months before the band wraps up its world tour at Auckland's Eden Park this December 17th.

Ahead of what'll be the final show of the global run, our very own Bryce Casey caught up with the guitar legend for a chat that covered everything from fresh GNR demos to dinosaur digs, with plenty of classic Slash stories thrown in.

For fans who've been hanging out for genuinely new Guns N' Roses material, this was probably the biggest takeaway. Slash confirmed he's back in the studio working on what he called "Guns demos".

"It's just a matter of going down and... buckling in and going, okay, we're making a record at this point."

He admitted it's a different process these days compared to the chaos that gave us Appetite For Destruction, joking that writing songs after "waking up face down in your own puke is not necessarily commonplace these days."

Bryce also congratulated Slash on recently reaching 20 years sober, with the guitarist saying, "I think when I finally sorted that out, I did it at a crucial time because had I not, I probably wouldn't be here."

As for New Zealand getting the final show of the tour? Slash reckons it'll be something special.

"It's a really special trip for us... I'm sure it's going to be a pretty special night, but I can't tell you what to expect."

One thing he can tell us? After Auckland, he's heading to Australia... not for another gig, but for his first proper dinosaur fossil dig. Because, of course, Slash is also one of the world's biggest dinosaur nerds.

He also reflected on the passing of Kiwi acting legend and Jurassic Park star Sam Neill, calling the news “really, really sad” and describing him as “a real gentleman”.

Music-wise, Slash has been listening to an upcoming Anthrax album shared with him by Scott Ian: “It's probably the best thing that those guys have ever done. I think it's going to kick serious ass.”

He’s also working on a movie project with a soundtrack stacked with ’80s metal, including Motörhead, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Thin Lizzy and Van Halen.
