Irish singer Sinéad O'Connor passed away overnight at the age of 56.
In a statement, the singer's family said: "It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Sinéad. Her family and friends are devastated and have requested privacy at this very difficult time."
Sinéad O'Connor released 10 albums throughout her career, gaining her international success with the release of 'Nothing Compares 2 U', a song originally written by Prince.
O'Connor's rendition topped charts across the world and was named the Number One World SIngle by the Billboard Music Awards in 1990.
