Former teen heartthrob and singer-turned-rapper Aaron Carter has died at the age of just 34.

TMZ first reported the news, revealing that Aaron was found dead on Saturday (US time) at his home in California. A 911 caller reportedly told emergency services a male had drowned in the bathtub.

Law enforcement told TMZ that while homicide detectives had been dispatched to Aaron's house, there was no evidence of foul play in his death.

Aaron released his first self-titled pop album when he was nine years old in 1997. He found fame with hits like 'I Want Candy' and also used to tour with The Backstreet Boys in their heyday - being the younger brother of one of the band members, Nick Carter.

Aaron famously dated Hilary Duff in the early 2000s, and briefly was romantically linked to Lindsay Lohan.

In more recent years, Aaron frequently made headlines for his erratic behaviour, many facial tattoos and outlandish claims. He was open about his substance abuse and had multiple stints in rehab.

According to TMZ, Aaron was pulled over by police just three days ago on suspicion of driving under the influence.

In 2019, Nick Carter and his singer Angel Carter filed a restraining order against Aaron. Another of his siblings, Leslie Carter, died at the age of 25 in 2012 after suffering an apparent drug overdose.

Some of the family's troubles were captured on a short-lived reality show called House of Carters in 2006.

Aaron is survived by his 11-month-old son, Prince.
