Shrek and Donkey are back in the first official teaser trailer for 'Shrek 5'.

The clip shows Donkey absolutely buzzing after finding out he and Shrek are teaming up again.

“It’s really happening,” he says. “Do you know what that means? I need a makeover - get my arms YOKED, my back JACKED… maybe even tighten up my badonkadonk.”

The hype builds as Donkey adds: “Shrek and Donkey, two stalwart friends off on another whirlwind, big-city adventure.”

A personal favourite moment is the return of the Gingerbread Man. After two gingerbread ladies smack the gumdrops on his backside, he declares: “I’m caked up like a freaking bakery.”

If there’s one thing we can rely on from a 'Shrek' film, it’s good one-liners - and by the looks of it, this one is going to have some goodies.

The trailer ends with Shrek and Donkey somehow winding up in jail, which is less than ideal for Shrek - once again stuck with a singing Donkey.

But we do also get a passionate Donkey cover of 'Roxanne' by The Police... so not all is bad.

Mike Myers is back as everyone’s favourite grumpy ogre, with Eddie Murphy returning as Donkey and Cameron Diaz as Princess Fiona.

Joining them is Zendaya, who’s set to voice Shrek and Fiona’s daughter, Felicia. She’s joined by Marcello Hernández and Skyler Gisondo, who play her brothers Fergus and Farkle.

The fifth instalment of the film already gained plenty of hype when the first images were revealed early last year - but some OG fans were NOT stoked with the animation.

Many voiced their frustration, with one fan writing: “As a longtime fan who has made many Shrek art pieces in her life, I beg you to bring back the old design.”

“I’m begging you to fix the animation,” another added.

Comparing the original Shrek to his new design, fans pointed out that his face appears rounder, with more pronounced wrinkles, bolder eyebrows, and a murkier green colour.

Maybe that’s why the comments have been turned off on the latest trailer release?!

Either way, we’re stoked to see the crew back together on the big screen!

'Shrek 5' is set to hit NZ cinemas from June 24, 2027.
