Sebastian Stan can't believe the public know Chris Evans will appear in Avengers: Doomsday.

The actor, who has played Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) since 2011, has admitted that Evans' return was treated like "a great secret" during filming, and he expected to keep it under wraps until the film came out in December.

During an appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Stan said he was shocked Evans' return was revealed, considering his co-star was "isolated" in London for months to keep his involvement a secret.

"I can't believe that it's public knowledge that he's in the movie now," he shared. "They had him isolated to a house, in a home somewhere far away like James Bond or something."

"I go, 'How are you doing? Because no one can know you're in England for this long period of time. And how are you doing it?'" he recalled. "It felt like a great secret."

Evans seemingly ended his run as Captain America in 2019's Avengers: Endgame, and he rejected several pitches to reprise the character before agreeing to do Doomsday.

He wasn't originally announced as a cast member of the team-up movie, but his involvement was confirmed in December 2025, a full year before Doomsday's release.

In the latest trailer, he appears as Steve Rogers in casual clothes rather than his Captain America suit and summons Thor's hammer Mjolnir to him.

Avengers: Doomsday also features Marvel regulars including Anthony Mackie as the new Captain America, Robert Downey Jr. as Victor von Doom / Doctor Doom and Chris Hemsworth, Paul Rudd and Tom Hiddleston as Thor, Ant-Man and Loki, respectively.

The movie will open in cinemas on 17 December.
