Scott Stapp has proven his talents once again - this time with an unexpected Western twist.
The Creed frontman released a short film called ‘Deadman’s Trigger: A Short Film’ on July 31st.
With nine minutes and 13 seconds of action, it doubles as both the music video for the hit single of the same name and an entertaining showcase of a priest-turned-cowboy who can’t beat the battle of his nightmares.
Stapp stars as the troubled priest, with his real-life son, Anthony, starring as his on-screen son.
Structured into four chapters, the film tells the story of a Christian man haunted by nightmares and villains.
When his son - the one thing he loves - is threatened, he returns to his old ways… with the Lord’s forgiveness, of course.
What was a calm Christian Ranch turns into an epic, Western Cowboy shoot-out, with a twist ending you won’t see coming.
“It was all inspired by the song,” Stapp told Billboard.
‘Deadman’s Trigger’ is an explosive track that is lyrically focused on a “stoic, patient, humble man” who has people targeting him, “forgetting how dangerous he can be.”
Believe me, they found out pretty quickly.
Stapp described the short film and song as “life imitating art.”
Director Tyler Dunning Evans agreed, saying Stapp’s “love for his kids translated to a vulnerable but fierce performance in the final cut.”
The film was shot over two days at Whitehorse Ranch in Landers, California.
YouTube comments flooded in pretty quickly after its release, and for good reason - it’s bloody epic.
“Always appreciate the soul you put into your work,” said one fan.
“Still making fire hits 20 years later,” said another.
Someone else showed an appreciation for the finer things: “The emotion, symbolism, and sound all came together beautifully.”
If you haven’t yet, chuck ten minutes aside and feast your eyes. You won’t be disappointed.
