Scott Robertson will return to rugby by taking charge of the Barbarians against the Springboks and Wales in June.
‘Razor’ was sensationally sacked as All Blacks coach last month following a two-year tenure that yielded 20 wins from 27 tests.
Robertson’s excited to get back into coaching.
“The Barbarians brings the rugby world together, so it’s special to be a part of it and to honour the jersey,” Robertson said.
Robertson has led the Barbarians four times before against New Zealand and Tonga in 2017, an All Blacks XV in 2022, and Wales in 2023.
He’s joined by three other coaches - Los Pumas head coach Felipe Contepomi, Racing 92 head coach Patrice Collazo, and former Highlanders and now Argentina assistant coach Kenny Lynn.
Robertson will face the Springboks for the first time since the record 43-10 defeat in Wellington in September.
Their coach Rassie Erasmus is looking forward to the occasion.
"It's always exciting to face the BaaBaas, and we are looking forward to hosting them in South Africa. This is a new season with two new exciting competitions, so the sooner we get into a test match mindset, the better."
Robertson is still yet to land a fulltime role but is likely to have several options.
New Zealand Rugby included a non-compete clause in his severance package which bars Robertson from taking charge of a top-tier Test rival until early 2027.
