The mayor of San Antonio has called for Kanye West's upcoming concert at the city's Alamodome to be cancelled.

The rapper, also known as Ye, is currently scheduled to perform at the city-funded venue on US Independence Day, 4 July, as part of his ongoing comeback tour.

San Antonio Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones has called for a cancellation of the show, citing West's history of anti-Semitic comments and hate speech.

"I support cancelling the @kanyewest concert," Jones wrote on X.

"Military City USA should not host someone with a record of hate speech and antisemitic comments in a city-funded facility like our Alamodome - not ever, and certainly not on July 4th, our Nation's 250th birthday."

She added: "Standing up to antisemitism is exactly what it takes to achieve a more perfect Union."

Her comments follow similar ones by Florida Senator Rick Scott, who recently urged the Tampa Sports Authority to cancel West's upcoming shows at Raymond James Stadium on 26 and 28 June.

Scott argued that allowing the rapper to perform in a taxpayer-supported stadium would be a "slap in the face" to Florida's Jewish community, citing what he described as West's "constant anti-Semitic attacks".

At the time of writing, the San Antonio show remains listed to go ahead, with tickets still available.
