Sam Rockwell has admitted that he was "miserable" in his heavy costume while filming Good Luck, Have Fun, Don't Die.

In the new time-travel action-adventure-comedy, The White Lotus actor plays a man from the future who walks into a Los Angeles diner on a mission to save humanity from AI and phone addiction.

His character wears a transparent plastic raincoat and a suicide bomb vest featuring tons of devices, tubes and wires.

In an interview with Metro, Rockwell admitted that he struggled filming the movie in Cape Town, South Africa in a suit weighing 40 pounds (18 kilograms).

"I was so miserable... I'd have to sit most of the days because it was so heavy," he confessed. "Nothing could prepare me for the suit. It was the low-budget version. It wasn't the one that Tom Cruise would have worn!"

Director Gore Verbinski praised the star for his resilience, telling the outlet, "I've got to work with Michael Caine, Chris Walken, Gene Hackman, Johnny Depp...I've worked with some amazing actors. And now I get to say I've worked with Sam Rockwell... he does the f**king work."

Good Luck, Have Fun, Don't Die is an ensemble feature also starring Haley Lu Richardson, Michael Peña, Zazie Beetz, Asim Chaudhry and Juno Temple.

Rockwell noted that it is a "talkie action" film rather than a traditional action movie, a genre he's previously explored with Iron Man 2 and Argylle.

"I've already tried, and I don't know if people are into it," he said of his forays into action. "I did Argylle and a couple other ones. So maybe people don't want to see me that way. I think they want to see me in a goofy suit with a beard."

Good Luck, Have Fun, Don't Die, which is already in U.S. cinemas, will be released in the U.K. on Friday.
