Sabbath and Ozzy’s farewell gig becomes highest-grossing charity concert

That's a bunch of money going straight to charities.

Black Sabbath and Ozzy Osbourne’s Back to the Beginning gig has made history in more ways than one - setting a new record for amount of money raised at a charitable concert.

The monster gig, which all went down in Birmingham’s Villa Park on July 5, celebrated the legacy of Sabbath and Ozzy alongside an insanely-stacked line up of artists and musicians. It truly was the concert of a lifetime.

The farewell concert has been making headline after headline since it all went down - and rightly so - it was over eight hours of some of the world’s finest musicians playing their own songs, covering Sabbath and Ozzy songs, performing in supergroups, and celebrating the legends that are Black Sabbath.

Not to mention it was Ozzy’s last time he’s ever set to perform live again.

According to a recent review by Billboard, the concert has made history by making more money than any charity concert - making it the highest-grossing charity concert of all time.

The show’s Musical Director, Rage Against The Machine’s Tom Morello, announced on Instagram that Back to the Beginning raised more than $190 million.

All proceeds are being donated equally across Birmingham's Children’s Hospital, Acorn Children’s Hospice and Cure Parkinson’s - a charity dedicated to finding a cure for the disease, which Ozzy has lived with since 2019.

Each of those charities were also able to raise tens of thousands of pounds in further donations by raffling concert tickets, auctions of signed art and band photos donated by Black Sabbath, as well as individual donations from fans while watching the stream from around the world.

Plus, more funds are set to be raised for the charities, with Yungblud announcing yesterday (July 16) that he's releasing his cover of Changes tomorrow (July 18), with all proceeds going straight to them.

40,000 people were at the concert in Villa Park, while it’s reported that 5.8 million people watched the global stream online. Mega.
