Ryan Murphy addresses Ariana Grande's exit from American Horror Story

Ryan Murphy hopes Ariana Grande will appear on American Horror Story in the future.

The singer-actress was originally set to guest-star in the upcoming thirteenth season of the horror anthology series, but last month, it was announced that she would no longer be on the show due to scheduling conflicts with her The Eternal Sunshine Tour.

But in an interview for The Hollywood Reporter published Thursday, showrunner Murphy insisted Grande is welcome to star on American Horror Story at any time.

"I will always work with her. I love her, and I support her. It was a very big swing, but I might bring that back for another season, per Ariana's availability. I think the world of her," he said.

Murphy emphasised that he worked with Grande on the first season of Scream Queens back in 2015 and that they remain great friends.

"You have to be respectful. Who is busier than Ariana Grande? No one. She had told me at the time, 'I have this album that's dropping.' It was really, truly a scheduling conflict," the producer recalled. "I said, 'OK, we'll kick that can down the road,' and she said, 'Great.'"

Earlier this week, a representative announced that Grande will be taking a "step back from visibility" after she wraps up the Eternal Sunshine Tour in London on 1 September.

The 33-year-old has had a busy year, having gone on a publicity tour for her movie Wicked: For Good in late 2025, kicked off the tour in June, and released her eighth studio album, Petal, last week.

The new series of American Horror Story, co-starring Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Billie Lourd, and Kathy Bates, will premiere via FX on 24 September.
