Multiple New Zealand news outlets have jumped on the news of a super cute proposal that went down at Lizzo's 'Special Tour' concert in Auckland last night. However, an insider has now spilled to our Edge Afternoons show that the 'I do' might not have been the real deal.
ICYMI: During Lizzo's last show, one man took a microphone and confessed his love for his 'best friend'.
After getting down on one knee he said: "Thank you for being the best friend I ever had for the last few years.... Will you be my husband? Because everybody's gay, and we're gay, and I love you, and I want to have you for the rest of my life."
Of course, the answer was "I do" and the video has since gone viral on TikTok.
However, an insider who claims to know the pair has told Edge Afternoons' Sharyn, Steph and Nickson that it all might be a sham.
The source said: "Basically I studied at the same university as the people who did the proposal. I've got all the reason to believe that there is no bit of truth, I think it's all fake."
Sharyn asked why they believe the proposal wasn't true, to which the insider added: "They wanted to meet Lizzo, they're massive massive fans of her."
They continued to claim they had seen a concert-goer from the 'couples' inner circle post to their close friends' Instagram Stories. The post allegedly said that the group were shocked they managed to pull off pranking the whole Lizzo concert.
And that they did! Even Lizzo was so invested she dedicated the song 'I love you Bitch' to the pair as they kissed right in front of her.
While we don't have confirmation from the 'couple' themselves, we'll be taking this one with a grain of salt, but could you imagine tricking Lizzo and the whole of Spark Arena? That's WILD!
