Ruby Stokes had a "phenomenal" experience walking onto the set of Madfabulous in her period costumes.
In the historical comedy-drama, Callum Scott Howells plays the flamboyant aristocrat Henry Paget, 5th Marquess of Anglesey, who arrives in North Wales in 1890 and blows his fortune on extravagant clothes, jewels, wild parties and theatrical productions.
Stokes, who plays Henry's cousin, friend and subsequent wife Lily, recalled in an interview with Cover Media what it was like to walk onto the stately home set in her 19th-century costumes.
"God, (it was) just like, phenomenal. I always feel so informed by set and make-up and costume, you know, particularly on this, it was just like, 'Oh, that bit of the character that I didn't understand, I understand it now,' because of Nadia Stacey's make-up design and Francesco Rodriguez, his costume design," she raved.
"It was like walking into the time period with like additional layers of story and whatnot," she continued. "It was magical. I've seen the film twice, and each time I'm like, 'Blimey, god, I can't believe (it)! What!?' That world is so immersive and all-encompassing with its design."
The Bridgerton actress's costumes pale in comparison to her co-star's fabulous, elaborate and often feminine outfits, which raised eyebrows with the locals at the time.
Stokes noted that the It's A Sin star seemed so at ease in his bold looks, as if he had been wearing those clothes "for decades".
"Every time I saw him in a costume, I was more in awe and just was like, 'Oh god, you're so glittering.' Quite literally, because he had a lot of glitter as well. Cal looks flipping great in anything," she praised. "He is wearing it; it is not wearing him. He can make just anything look incredible. He could put a bin bag on and make it look incredible!"
The Lockwood & Co. star added, "For example, I'll put on a corset and be like, 'I've got to walk around a bit in this to get used to how I hold myself.' And anything that Cal put on, it was like he had been wearing it for decades."
Madfabulous, also starring Rupert Everett, is releasing in U.K. cinemas from Friday 5 June.
