Roxette cancels 40th anniversary US tour

Roxette have cancelled their upcoming tour of North America.

The band, who are currently touring for their 40th-anniversary celebrations in Europe, announced the news with a statement on social media on Friday.

"Due to logistics and hugely increased touring costs, Live Nation US has decided to postpone the North American tour. Hope to see you some other time down the road." The announcement was signed "Team Rox".

On Saturday, founder and frontman Per Gessle added a personal note, telling fans the decision was strictly down to promoter Live Nation.

"Lena (Philipsson), I and the band are of course disappointed. We were really looking forward to this North American tour and the US is by far our biggest streaming market. This decision was made by Live Nation USA, which they probably based on their own calculations. I hope we can play for our fab fans in the USA and Canada at some point in the near future."

Ticketholders for the US and Canada dates received notice that their money was being refunded for the shows, despite phrasing that the tour was being "postponed".

The band had been booked into amphitheatres across North America, with the Swedish act headlining a bill that also included 1980s favourites Taylor Dayne and Nick Lowe.

The cancellation comes hot on the heels of news that Roxette's 1990 smash It Must Have Been Love had officially joined YouTube's Billion Views Club.
