Last month, the Rolling Stones treated us to new music with ‘Rough and Twisted’, and this month they’ve done it again, with the release of ‘In the Stars’ early this morning.
The release of both singles has added to the anticipation surrounding their upcoming album ‘Foreign Tongues’, which is set to be released on July 10th, and will feature both of these songs as well as 12 other tracks (14 tracks total).
‘In the Stars’ offers a more upbeat and groovy sound, in contrast to the bluesy tune that we were blessed with last month, and has been met with mostly positive reactions from fans, although a fair few didn’t seem to be wowed by it.
As one Reddit user stated, “It's good but not my favourite”.
Another highlighted the song's wins, “AC/DC verse and Indie/pop chorus. Brilliant!!... The Greatest Rock n Roll Band in the World are back!!
While some pointed out the differences between the two singles so far: These two songs are so completely different from each other, I still have no idea what style they're gonna lean into with this album.”
Others were just happy the band is still putting out music: “If I’m able to pull off anything near this in my 80s, I’ll be happy”.
With the Stones being active for over 60 years, some may think these rockers would be slowing down, but it appears it was full steam ahead with album production.
As bass guitarist Ronnie Wood said in a statement, the lads have been “on top form throughout the whole process… very often we nailed it on the first take.”
Mick Jagger also noted it was an “intense few weeks” of recording in what he described as a room full of passion.
Richards too felt the intensity, “It was a month of concentrated punch” adding, “I’m blessed to be able to do this and long may it last”.
If the album trailer is anything to go by, it looks like the crew had a lot of fun in the studio as well, and regardless of how the album is received, it’s a huge achievement to be able to put out another piece of work 6 decades into their careers.
We look forward to hearing the full album later this year.
