After supporting Daily J at their Wellington show, Riiki Reid is shaping up to be one of this generation’s favourite Kiwi pop stars.
The release of her EP ‘Skin’ back in 2024 gave us a somber vibe, and now she’s back with a whole new sound.
She popped by to perform her single ‘Over Romantic’ - and we were GAGGED. The summer feels are still alive and well, even though it's now winter here in NZ.
Riiki describes the song herself as a “memento you take away from your summer,” which has everyone dreaming about those warm January months.
Sitting down with Sean, Steph, and Harrison from The Edge Afternoons, Riiki shared her favourite of the song's spicy lyrics.
"'The sun is hot, but I’ve seen hotter before'," she said. "You see it in the movies where someone is just googly-eyed and drooling over someone."
I’m just trying to encapsulate the classic summer fling. There's something about the summer time and getting ‘Over Romantic’.
Riiki teased there was "more to come" from her during the year, saying her newest project is “all about chasing that summer nostalgia”.
This isn’t the first time the singer has paid a visit to our Edge studio. She did an acoustic cover of Dua Lipa’s ‘Training Season’ last year, and her sensual rendition took all of us to church.
You can listen to her newest release, ‘Indulgent (Fruit)’ that continues to bring the heat here.
This definitely won’t be the last you’ll hear of Riiki Reid, and we can’t wait to see her star continue to shine.
