Rei releases 'electronic-focused Te reo Māori' DJ set

It's Te Wiki o te Reo Māori - celebrating it's 50th year. What better time for us to drop the online premiere of a new youtube DJ mix by Rei, featuring, in his words, "electronic, future-focused te reo Māori music."

Rei told us about the motivation behind putting together the mix. "I feel like there’s this huge wave of Hiko at the moment, it’s been slowly building for some time, but it’s definitely starting to break. From Shaka djing our reo tunes globally to Mokotron infusing mōteatea flows with his electro beats, Huia singing her liquid DnB in Canada and UK, me getting baile funk reo rua raps trending on TikTok and performing around the world, there’s just so much cool shit happening right now. I wanted to make a mix to whakanui, to highlight the movement and also give people something to kanikani to for te wiki o te reo māori. Think te reo jump jam. Reheko!"
