Regina Hall has recalled the "incredible, peaceful" process of starting to become a nun.
The Girls Trip star took the "initial step" to joining a nunnery after a relationship breakdown.
"I certainly took an initial step, yes," Regina, 55, told the Glass Half Full podcast in an interview published on Tuesday.
However, she expressed doubt as to whether the move was "a big deal" as her interviewer, Today's Craig Melvin, suggested, instead comparing the experience to looking at engagement rings.
"Is it? I feel like I went ring shopping," the One Battle After Another star quipped. "You know what I mean? It's like, getting engaged is a 'big deal', but is it? Marriage is probably a big deal."
She went on to explain that, in fact, the lead-up to talking to the nunnery felt "more significant" to her as she was in the midst of an "incredible romance" with God.
"It was an incredible time of meditation, of prayer, of quiet," Regina continued. "It was just an incredible, peaceful time."
However, she explained, she was told she was "too seasoned" to devote her life to the church.
"They had an age thing," Regina said. "It was like 39 and I was a little north of that."
The actress recalled she was first inspired to explore the idea after a bad break-up.
"It was a break-up that had happened probably two or three years before that," she explained.
However, Regina added, her subsequent discovery of religion made up for the painful split.
"It made the breakup worth it," she admitted. "I just saw all the beauty in the divine orchestration of things, and I thought it was great."
