Raye, Sombr and Teddy Swims to honour George Michael at MTV VMAs

Raye, Sombr and Teddy Swims will come together for a tribute performance to honour musical pop icon George Michael during the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards.

The VMAs tribute to the late star, who remains one of the best-selling artists of all time, comes 40 years after his career-defining album, Faith, and ahead of the worldwide release of George Michael: The Faith Tour live album on 6 November.

A feature-length film, George Michael: The Faith Tour, will debut in European cinemas the same day.

Raye will make her VMAs performance debut with a solo performance and as part of the tribute. The two-time VMAs winner is twice-nominated this year, including for Song of the Year for Where Is My Husband!.

Sombr returns to the VMAs stage, while also nominated for three awards, including Song of the Summer.

Teddy Swims also returns to the VMAs stage for the first time since 2024 when he was a four-time nominee.

A four-time VMA winner himself, Michael was honoured with the Video Vanguard Award in 1989.

This year's nominations are led by Madonna and Taylor Swift, with Ariana Grande and Sabrina Carpenter in hot pursuit.

Nirvana will receive the coveted Video Vanguard Award at this year's ceremony.

Hosted by Snoop Dogg, the 2026 VMAs will air live from Los Angeles' Peacock Theatre on the evening of Sunday 27 September US time.
