Quinta Brunson has teased that her Betty Boop movie will be "unlike anything anyone expects".

The Abbott Elementary creator and actress announced in May that she is developing a movie about the famous 1930s cartoon character and will star in the title role.

Teasing the project on Good Morning America, Brunson said she is "creating a really incredible movie" but is unable to share much information because they are still "in process right now".

However, the comedian divulged that the movie will reflect the wider era of animation rather than focus solely on Betty Boop.

"I think the story will be unlike anything anyone expects. It's not just about Betty herself but about an era of animation," she commented.

When asked what drew her to the Betty Boop project, she replied, "It was the story about her creation, honestly. It's just not that simple, and it shines a light on way more than you would ever think in America's history. So it's really cool."

Brunson and her Fifth Chance Productions company are working with Fleischer Studios, which owns Max Fleischer's animated character, on the feature.

In the original announcement, the actress explained that there was "a much deeper story to tell" about "one of our nation's most beloved cartoon characters".

"One that could be explored in a way that feels refreshing, subversive and timeless, much like Betty herself," she added.

The star appeared on the morning show to promote the sixth season of Abbott Elementary, which started airing earlier this month.

She also has a voice role in the animated adaptation of Dr. Seuss' children's book The Cat in the Hat. The film, in which Bill Hader voices the titular cat, will be released on 6 November.
