Queen Latifah has revealed that watching haka is actually one of her “guilty pleasures” that brings her “pure joy”.

The award-winning singer, rapper and actress shared her love for haka during a recent episode of the ‘IRL’ podcast hosted by Angie Martinez, calling it a “powerful tradition”.

“My guilty pleasure is a haka dance in New Zealand,” Latifah said.

“It’s like a traditional dance/chant that they do to celebrate things. If there is a wedding happening, or if someone’s just come home and everybody knows it, from the kids to the old people.”

She said haka hits her so hard, she gets goosebumps just talking about it.

“I’m telling you, I put that thing on, and I got goosebumps right now,” she said.

Hard day at work, low on energy - I just put it on.

The clip has since been reshared online by the Facebook Page Stories With Huri and has gained heaps of attention.

People have been praising Queen Latifah for speaking so highly about Te Ao Māori and haka.

“Wow, Queen Latifah gets goosebumps and so do I, the haka is truly a universal language of emotions and connection,” one person commented.

“Love how Queen Latifah feels the wairua,” another wrote.

“As an indigenous Māori wahine, it warmed my heart to hear this,” someone else said.

Others were quick to invite the superstar over to Aotearoa to experience haka in person - and we’d absolutely back that.

Haka rōpū Angitu are the group for the job.

Back in 2023, they welcomed Harry Styles to Aotearoa ahead of his ‘Love On Tour’ shows in Tāmaki Makaurau with a powerful haka performance.

They even got the 'Aperture' singer to attempt his own pukana.

We’d love to see Queen Latifah give it a go, too! Who do we need to talk to for this to happen?
