In the year 2025, one of the biggest clichés is office romances, with some happening while someone (or both parties) is in a ‘committed’ relationship.
It can be hard to spot the signs, but in an article published by Metro, a private investigator named Paul Evans has named the most likely professions to take the expression ‘work wife’ or ‘husband’ a little too seriously.
IT Professionals
Is your partner's calculator app on their phone really a calculator app…? Or is it a treasure trove of hidden messages and pictures from Lucy, who works in the accounts department?
While appearing to be unlikely culprits, Paul claims that he’s “dealt with more cases in the IT sector than we would expect to.” And it’s not surprising that in the online age, IT professionals can cover their digital tracks with ease compared to most.
Sales Reps
Like Jake Gyllenhaal's character in ‘Love and Other Drugs’, sales reps get a rep for leaning slightly on the naughty side…
Paul claims he’s “had cases where we have followed reps around the country to find out they were cheating with work colleagues and sometimes randomers at the hotel bar.” Yikes, maybe using persuasion as a career strategy isn’t the most reassuring romantic trait after all.
Flight Attendants
Flying all over the world and meeting hundreds of people a month? Turns out this could be a recipe for disaster for any romantic relationship.
Paul reckons “the distance, freedom and glamorous settings can increase temptation, especially when you are far away from your partner,” meaning “boundaries can quickly fade”.
Call Centre Workers
Because nothing gets the juices flowing like working in close quarters with your coworkers 40+ hours a week.
In his investigations, Paul found that “‘call centre workers are under pressure every day, and it’s only natural to form bonds with the people around you.” Who knew listening to Bic Runga’s ‘Sway’ on repeat could be so steamy?
Medical Professionals
Leading the charge are our everyday heroes, nurses and doctors who save lives by day and might just ruin a few homes by night.
Paul found that the high-pressure environment and long hours was a lethal combination when it came to healthcare affairs. In one case Paul investigated, he “discovered that a nurse was having an affair with a doctor during their night shifts, meeting in a spare room in the hospital while their partners believed that they were working.” Sounds like the beginning of every horny medical show on TV right now.
Does your partner work any of these professions? It might be time to start looking out for those “late nights at work” or figure out why Sandra from finance is calling at 2 am…
