Pip Terekia: Gisborne Young Grower Of The Year

"Third time lucky," he exclaims, reflecting on his persistence after placing second and third in previous years.

Pip Terekia is a trainee orchard manager at The Apata Group who won the 2024 Gisborne Young Grower of the Year competition and is set to take on other regional winners from Pukekohe, Central Otago, Hawke's Bay and Nelson.

Transitioning from academia to hands-on horticulture, Terekia discusses his love for working outdoors and the challenges he faced along the way.

As he prepares for the National Young Grower final in Hawke's Bay, Terekia touches on the resilience of Gisborne's horticulture community and emphasises the importance of family-owned orchards, calling them "the heart and soul of the industry."
